The Word of God Proves True

Psalm 18:30 (ESV) – This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.

Many critics of the Bible used to deny the reality of the Hittite people. They said that no historical evidence existed outside the Bible for the existence of these people mentioned in the Bible. Not only does the Bible mention them, but describes them as a prominent and powerful people that the Israelites had to contend with. And for hundreds of years, critical scholars claimed this was evidence that the Bible wasn’t true. It was all fabricated myths and tales according to experts. Then archeologists discovered ruins of the Hittite civilization and proved the Bible true. In fact, the findings didn’t just discover a little civilization, but a vast empire reflecting the description of the Scriptures.

This lines up perfectly with our passage today. We read from the psalmist, “This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”

Notice that the psalmist says God’s ways are perfect. He is all-wise and knowing so His ways will always be the best. This is also why His Word will always be true. He cannot lie. If God says something, it will be. He cannot break a promise. He cannot prophesy something that doesn’t come to pass. By the nature of who God is, all that He says or determines to do will come to pass. The Word of the LORD proves true. This is why we can have supreme confidence in the Bible. Never let the doubting critics of Scripture cause you worry or heartache. These are fallible creatures who often fail to manage their own lives, emotions, or time consistently or wisely. They are creatures that think they can live detached from the Creator. Don’t fall for it.

The LORD is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. I don’t know everything, but I know the LORD is good. His ways are perfect. His Word is true. I can count on Him and look to Him in all things.

I need not fear or worry over what I don’t control. God’s Word sustains me. His promises never fail. This is what believers must cling to everyday. Take refuge in the God whose Word always proves true.
